Honeymoon is over, I think....

We are now on Day 3 of being home.   The first night we only got a few hours of sleep, then laid pretty low on Friday.  Maybe got 4 hrs of sleep on Friday night.  We keep reminding ourselves that it's like bringing home a new baby - we have to be ready for sleepless nights.  There are so many factors at play, jet lag being one of the biggest one, though, I think.

Saturday (yesterday) we were all just zombies.  We stayed home all day, but I think made the mistake of being too busy, and too social.  Cora LOVES seeing people and visitors, but cries and cries when people leave.  My friend Hui from work came over, who speaks mandarin, and brought her kids, too.  It was a great visit (thanks Hui!) and I think Cora loved hearing someone speaking her language finally.  But she was pretty angry and upset when they left.   We also spent most of the day outside, playing with our good friends and neighbors and their kids.  Again, Cora loved being with them, but was beside herself when we had to separate.  We were walking on eggshells all day, just waiting to see what would set her off.   She screams and gets so angry, and we just don't know how to snap her out of it?  The stroller is still a good distraction, or just getting her to play with her dolls or something.  Or having her new BFF "big girl", come hold her hand and bring her somewhere.  But I think the poor thing was just SO tired yesterday, she just was losing it right and left.  And James and I were also on the brink, many times.

We had an early dinner with the Tbacks, and then got her to sleep at about 7:30.  We all slept on and off, but in the end, were thrilled cause I think she (and james and I too!) ended up with almost 7 or 8 hrs of sleep!  Sophie also got a good night sleep.  She slept the whole night in the magic stroller, though.  Kind of funny.  Reminds me of the days when sophie would sleep in her car seat when she was sick.

The hard part is, when she wakes, she just rages, like she is a completely different person.  James has been reading lots today about night terrors - we think that is what going on.

So today is Sunday, and we are completely taking a step back in our "schedule".  We went for a walk this morning, then have just been playing all day at home, just the 4 of us.  Cora has been doing awesome. She is such a sweet and funny thing.  She is saying more words, and playing with some new toys, and just hanging out.  Oh and news flash - SHE IS NAPPING right now!  She was chillin' on the bean bag, and fell asleep watching the old school smurfs.  I think the extra sleep helped for sure, but I also think staying inside more, and just hanging with the fam is what we need to do for a few days.  It's hard, because my mom and dad, and Paul and Kristin were going to come over today, but we decided to postpone.

A few little tidbits - she loves cherry tomatoes, she loves changing her clothes, and pretty princess dresses, and still is practicing on her hair styling skills.  Oh, and loves to do the trampoline with her big sister.

sleeping as I type!

  1. Oh Davis family! Cora is so cute. As a mother I can totally empathize with you. Keep the updates coming and when the time is right for all of you, we would love to come and visit. XOXO
